CERAMIC

Ceramic magnets made of Barium and Strontium Ferrite have been available since the 1950's, and due to their high coercive force with respect to the alnicos, they revolutionized the design and manufacture of permanent magnet DC motors--particularly for the automotive market. Their principal advantage is that they are very inexpensive and they have great magnetic and environmental stability. They are brittle and hard, and it is common for them to have chips and cracks. However, they are very resistant to corrosion. Because of their very low cost they are widely used in toy and novelty applications, as well as DC motors, and audio speakers ---particularly in the automotive market.

Typical applications include:

  • DC Motors

  • Speakers

  • Holding devices

  • Face to Face magnetic couplings

  • Magnetic brakes & clutches
